# Importing 3D Models

Bring your existing 3D assets into Vizcom to sketch, render, and visualize them in context, all within your design workflow.

Importing 3D models lets you layer your design work over real geometry, explore form and materials interactively, and produce high-quality visuals without rebuilding models from scratch.

## When to import 3D Models

Importing 3D models is ideal for designers, product developers, and teams who already have base 3D assets — whether created in CAD software, sculpted in 3D tools, or downloaded from libraries — and want to:

* Validate concepts by sketching over real 3D volume
* Produce high-quality AI-assisted renderings of existing models
* Integrate design ideation and visualization in one workflow
* Save time rebuilding geometry from scratch

This feature is part of Vizcom’s 3D Layers system and works in the 2D Studio / Workbench environment.

## How to import 3D Models

<Steps>
  <Step title="Create a new file or open an existing one." />

  <Step title="Click the insert button.">
     Choose the option to upload your 3D model.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Select your 3D file. ">
    Supported formats include:

    * **.glb / .gltf**
    * **.obj**
    * **.fbx**
    * **.stl**
  </Step>

  <Step title="Position your model on the canvas.">
     Move, rotate, and scale the 3D asset to your desired view.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Sketch or render over your model. ">
    Use brushes and layers to draw on top of the 3D volume, create annotations, or generate coherent renderings.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Generate a rendering. ">
    Use the *Generate* button to produce a high-quality render that incorporates both your model and sketch work.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Tips & FAQ

<Tip>
   Import models with clean geometry and centered origin points for the best positioning and sketch alignment.
</Tip>

<Tip>
  Use imported 3D models as underlays. Combine them with sketch layers to explore design variations or surface details.
</Tip>

## FAQ

* **Which 3D formats are supported?**\
  Vizcom accepts \_.glb, \_.gltf, \*.obj, *.fbx,* and *.stl* formats.
* **Can I draw directly over the imported model?**\
  Yes. Once the model is placed, you can add sketch layers and refine visuals with brushes and prompts.
* **Do imported models appear in renders?**\
  Yes. When you generate a render, the imported 3D geometry is integrated with your sketch layers for cohesive visuals.
