How to use Modify modes in Vizcom

Generate controlled variations from an existing image, including new views, expression shifts, material cutouts, and form or color exploration.

When to use Modify Modes

Modify is used after you already have a solid visual direction and want to iterate without starting over. It helps you generate targeted variations with control and extract useful assets like flat materials or alternate viewpoints. Use Modify when:
  • You want new angles of the same concept
  • You want to change a character’s expression without redesigning them
  • You need a material sample pulled from a design
  • You want form or color exploration while staying anchored to the base idea

How to use Modify Modes

In Workbench:
1

Upload or select an image in Workbench.

2

Create a Modify block

  • Drag from the + on the image and select Modify
  • Or insert Modify from the Workbench toolbar and connect it to your image
3

Choose a Modify mode

  • New View
  • Change Expression
  • Extract Material
  • Form & Color Variation
4

Adjust the mode specific controls and any settings.

5

Click Generate to create results.

In Studio:
1

Open an image in Studio.

2

Open the Modify workflow from the workflow sidebar.

3

Select a mode, adjust controls, then Generate.

Modify Modes Overview

New View
  1. What it does
    1. Generates the same product from different angles while keeping the design direction consistent.
    2. How to use
      • Use the cube interface to pick an angle
      • Or choose a standard view from the dropdown
Check the generated image label for the view settings used.
Change Expression
  1. What it does
    • Changes a character’s facial expression while keeping the character identity consistent.
  2. How to use
    • Use the expression control to set mood
    • Use the final option to describe a custom expression in words
Check the generated image label for the view settings used.
Extract Material
  1. What it does
    • Generates flat material images from a selected area so you can reuse them in production workflows.
  2. How to use
    • Use the cutout tool to roughly define the material region
    • Adjust zoom with + and - for better framing
    • Describe the intended material finish in text to guide the output
If the finish looks off, tighten the cutout area and clarify the material description.
Form & Color Variation
  1. What it does
    • Explores alternative form language and color directions while staying anchored to the base idea.
  2. How to use
    • Adjust the variation diagram across the axes:
      1. Geometric vs Organic
      2. Simple vs Complex
    • Generate multiple outputs to compare a range of directions
Make one axis move at a time to understand what is driving the change.

Tips

Quickly navigate between Modify workflows by clicking the back arrow when inside a specific modify mode to return to the initial state of the block.

Next Steps

  • Use New View to build a consistent multi angle set for reviews and presentations.
  • Use Extract Material to create reusable CMF assets for downstream work.
  • Use Form & Color Variation to map a design space, then switch to Modify prompting to refine the best direction.
